VPS package – EVERYTHING you need to get started!

Posted by: Robert  :  Category: Marketing
We don’t normally place ads on here, but this is the first time we’ve ever made this offer, and it fits this site quite well. This is a whole package deal that gets you everything that you need to get started!
VPS with FREE SSL, DirectAdmin (cPanel optional),ClientExec licenses
plus get a Secondary DNS-Only remote VPS too!

What is “lagniappe”?
Simple, something extra given to a customer just because…

Lagniappe Internet is all about helping you run your web hosting business. To
do so properly means you need a few things… This package gets you everything
you need to get started.

First we start with a Virtual Private Server (VPS) on an under-loaded server
with true server class hardware including ample memory & RAID drive arrays. We
constantly monitor our servers, and never over-sell them.

Next you should use a control panel that people can use to help themselves in such
everyday tasks as setting up email accounts, additional domains, FTP, etc. This
not only simplifies your life, but your customers feel better that they don’t
have to bother you to make minor changes. So this package includes the popular
DirectAdmin control panel (internal use) license for you and your customers.
Optionally, you can get cPanel/WHM licenses for just $7.50/month, half the regular
rate — special through for this offer, just PM/Email to get it. We do recommend
Advanced or Premium VPS accounts for cPanel because of a larger footprint.

Then you need some type of billing and support system, and that system should
preferably be able to be setup to integrate with your control panel to be able
to add, or even suspend/re-activate accounts if necessary. And that system should
have use SSL encryption to secure the transmission to and from the billing/support
system… so we’ll also provide you with a SSL certificate for your domain.

Lastly, you really want your secondary DNS on another server on another network -
complete with it’s own separate IP address. So included in this package is a 2nd
DNS-Only VPS. We’ll setup DNS replication from your primary VPS to the secondary.
For cPanel VPSes, we’ll install cPanel’s DNS-Only option with built in replication
abilities. The secondary vps can only be used for dns.

We’ll help protect your and your customers’ data with daily backups. We run a vzdump
backup nightly (a short suspend may be required), and then copy that offsite. We also
make weekly backups to a NAS unit in the office.

Basically you’ll get everything you need to get up and going…

To get this special WHT package, just sign up for one of the packages below, and
then shoot me a PM here or email me at rob -at- lagniappeinternet.com and

But we still suggest that you make and keep a backup yourself as well.

SolusVM review

Posted by: Robert  :  Category: Administration, Customer Support

We’ve been busy lately… we’ve installed SolusVM and have been integrating existing OpenVZ nodes into the system. Overall the process went fairly smoothly. We installed the management console into a VPS primarily for backup reasons. We could if needed take the dump and place it on another node and bring it back up pretty quickly. This adds slightly to the cost ($2.50/month) but is well worth it in our opinion. Otherwise, you install the management console on an full server and it becomes a node.

We did have one issue with an existing node, that had long ago been a HyperVM node. I placed a ticket with SolusLabs and within 30 minutes or so had the initial response. After trying a few things, their support person logged into the node for me and did the setup. The problem was with  compatibility between lighttpd and a library iirc.  Strangely enough that server did a kernel panic a few hours later after acting “wierd” for a few minutes.  Since it was brought back up, it’s been stable. I suspect it was all of the loading and unloading of various components that led to the problem.

One of the features is the pricing… It is $10 per month per node. The number of vpses per node doesn’t matter. You pay just for each physical server. The downside is that some providers will use this to justify placing more vpses per server. But those that think that way will be doing that anyway because of other per server costs like power, rack space, etc.

So far we’re pretty impressed. Of the VPS management consoles that have been brought to market since the demise of HyperVM’s founder and developer, this one seems the most solid.
