These drives are different from the consumer models in that the firmware on the drives has been redone for being included in a RAID system. Regular WD drives are known for having issues when placed in RAID setups – they have an error and get dropped out of the array. WD’s stance is simply those drives are not intended for RAID, and it’s the consumer’s problem not theirs. These drives however ARE configured and warranted for RAID use.
At this price I really expected to see refurbished drives listed on the site. These are new though but only carry a 180 day warranty. Considering most places want 3 to 4 times as much for the same drive, just buy an extra or 2…
